So this batch fill feature has been around for some time. It got better in Studio now. For us folks who own a laser without a camera, Xtool has their mobile app loaded with features to bridge that gap. Is it a gimmick? Nice to have? I’m enjoying it for sure. What’s your take?

Hello! Last week I compared tempera to a commercially available marking spray. Both did pretty good at various levels. Tempera led on pricing, availability and safety. The commercial spray did very well in application, clean up and quality. All these categories followed a very strict unscientific approach, as always. Now, the "scratchability" test can be a bit polarizing. Who in their right mind would scratch a perfectly good engraving, you ask? I did, in the name of pseudoscience. The spray held up better, no question about it. This was mainly because the coating applied so thin, you'd think it wouldn't be enough to mark anything. The tempera, somehow I managed to apply to the glass but it went on very thick. I can only blame the operator for this one. This is why I am using an airbrush this week to see if that approach can lay a thinner coat of tempera, and in turn yield a better quality marking, giving it a better chance to stand the abuse of my ill-equipped hands. Hey everyone! I’ve been spending some time testing different coatings for laser engraving on glass and this round was an interesting one. I put a professional glass marking spray (the kind that costs around $40) head-to-head against tempera paint, a humble $3 kids’ paint that’s been my favorite DIY option for a few weeks now. The photo I'm sharing shows both engravings side by side, the same logo, identical glasses (ok, they came out of the same box). I tried to frame it so you can really see the details from both. Hopefully I did it justice! The spray was super easy to use once I got the nozzle working right (my fault). The tempera… well, let’s just say brushing it on smoothly takes practice. That’s why I just ordered an airbrush, so I can test tempera again with a smoother coat next time.
